Source control read only notification

Tags:In Dreamweaver when you change to an associated file you get a nice bar letting you know the file is read only and a link to check it out. Is there any way to get that for the actual file your opening?
The only notice you have when opening files from a search or something is the tinny lock icon when you have read only warning when opening turned off.
It works a lot better to have that read only warning when opening files turn off. One thing, its annoying being asked every time you open a file, two the "view and checkout" and "make writable" dialogs look nearly identical, and people are a lot more prone to inadvertently make a file writable.
