Premier CS3 will not add video to timeline

Hey there. I've got intermediate editing skills but I just started using this version of Premier (versus whatever version was around ~10 yrs ago). I've got my .avi file imported to the project list. It shows and plays in the source window and I can mark it and trim it there. BUT once I try to click and drag it or insert or overlay into the timeline... nothing. It doesn't carry over. I cannot figure it out. Nothing is 'locked'. I've tried right clicking, checking all the drop downs, and have read and re-read the adobe "how to" on this with no such luck. What's wrong?

CS3 is Premiere Pro, not Premiere Elements... go to http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous

Also, when you post to the PrPro CS 4 & Earlier forum (John T's link), please post the full specs. of your AVI file. This ARTICLE goes into much more detail, and how to get those specs., as they will likely tell much of the story.
