For many of you on this forum that have known me for a long time, you can imagine my excitement to announce the release of our new "baby"! It's been a log time in the making, with progress rather ruthlessly slowed with the "great recession" But we continued burning midnight oil and did a lot of bootstrapping and as a result... It's here! So please indulge me this O.T. announcement - and cross post.
The Cartweaver team is extremely pleased to announce that the new Cartweaver site is now live and our pre-sales event has begun! We are so exited about all the new features in this literally new from the ground (database) up version of Cartweaver. Available on ColdFusion, and PHP with full support for CSS formatting and jQury UI enhancements.
We begin taking pre-sales orders now for Cartweaver 4 at a significant discount. If you are a current Cartweaver user, log in - the link is in the upper right hand corner of the Cartweaver site - and you will be given your additional pre-sales upgrade discount!
Cartweaver 4 will actually be released sometime next week, (the week of February 20-26) when it is the pre-sales discount will be discontinued and you will be able to log into your account and download your copy of Cartweaver 4, you will also then be able to order and download your free Cartweaver 4 template.
We will be posting more information on our Facebook Page, Twitter as well as in the Cartweaver Forums as time goes on. You can see a bunch of videos on Cartweaver 4 on our YouTube channel:

We are so very excited to finally share all the information about the new and incredibly improved Cartweaver 4

Hi Nancy!
Thank you
If you use Dreamweaver and are going to be using the CW4 Dreamweaver Extension you'll need CS3 or higher. Cartweaver 4 has a DW Extension that makes installation and setup really easy, but it is not dependent on it. For those who use text editing environments such as Eclipse - or for CF user CF Eclipse or CF Builder addong Cartweaver 4 is as seasy as drag and drop, and then editing one config file. For the PHP version - MySQL 4+ and PHP 4+

Wow Allen,
you posted three times in one thread. Whatever experience you had has obviously left a sour taste in your mouth and for this I apologize. Folks on this forum and in the Adobe community have known me for a long time, they know your's is not the kind of experience I and my team strive for, but you obviously feel this way deeply so I can do nothing but accept that somehow you slipped through the cracks or were treated poorly by one of our team. To me this is unacceptable! So let me apologize and ask you to contact me directly and see what I can do personally to make it up to you.

Umm I'm really upset and I want to be taken care of too! ![]()
j/k Lawerence, excellent software. There were a few holes in the code that I found RE: security of digital downloads that was patched in a decent amount of time. So all-in-all v.3 was pretty good.
The thing that makes me reluctanct to consider v.4 is that so much time has passed between v.3 and now that I have re-written the entire cartweaver framework myself to accomodate my needs ie. converted table layout to CSS and implemented jQuery, etc.. I'm sure other cartweaver users have done the same.
Now I've read some of your previous posts about this upcoming upgrade and you mention that this is an entire re-write, which is understandable. Seems like one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations for previous users in regard that if they have v.3 code on their current site then it's a load to convert to the new version.
How much work is involved in the transition for legacy cartweaver users? Obviously this will vary, but is v.4 completely different than v.3 in regard to MySQL table structure and sessions, functions, etc. Your FAQ mentions db table conversion, but what about sessions, functions, etc.
No upgrade price available on your website? And what about compatability of v.3 plugins? Looks like v.4 will not support v.3 plugins.
I thought there'd be more offered in this upgrade. Looks like v.3 is the end of the road for me
I thought that I might upgrade to v.4 for giggles and use it for new clients, but was hoping for additional login options and mobile version, which are two important things that I have developed since v.3. The requirement for users to register yet another account to purchase was a deterrant so I developed a one-click facebook connection solution using fb API. Adds benefits like the ability to post on the purchasers facebook wall and full fb connection integration with comments, likes, messages, etc. Actually pretty easy from a development standpoint and was hoping you'd have a connection option for the purchasers on cartweaver developers' websites. Something like register through website or connect through facebook either/or as signup/login options, or just one facebook connect option like I developed. There's also Twitter connection that can be used in the same way. Mobile device detection with redirect to a mobile version of the store would of also been nice to see in v.4. I did some really cool stuff with secure download on iPhone of verified purchases that streams the videos to verified iOS users that are connected through fb. With trust in your privacy I would be happy to show you examples off the forum grid if you'd like me to email.

best,
Shocker ![]()
"but was hoping for additional login options"
do mean for customers or for admin access - Because CW4 has both.
"I developed a one-click Facebook connection"
We have already developed and are in final testing where you run your store in an iframe - in other words display and navigate your products in Facebook. You only leave to checkout - for obvious security reasons.
Your FAQ mentions db table conversion,
There is a data import utility that moves all your CW3 data into the New CW4 data structure - so no worries there.
You have obviously done a lot of work with CW3 over the years, which is really cool and what it was intended for. On that note however, by modern standards there's a lot that CW3 did wrong. Although the functionality was very modular and pretty easy to add to your design, the code was pretty much a data/function/presentation soup - all mixed and well stirred. This was the primary reason for the full rewrite. The data / function/ presentation layers have been completely separated. For a developer, need to change some SQL to include a new table field... You go one place and do it once - the whole app now has access to the change. Need to change the way a function works, such as the cart total? Same thing on place and that change will be available everywhere. The CSS is updates - a lot. For example all product display is now table-less, so moving things around is a lot easier. as well as making mobile presentation - you don't need to design an entire separate mobile interface, just a mobile friendly CSS document.
So, not to go on too long, to put a fine point on it, the very reason we did a full rewrite is for the exact same reasons you had to spend a lot of time updating CW3 yourself. The web moves forward, so it was the right thing to do to keep up with it.
If you have more questions please feel free to contact me and we can discuss them offline.

Hi Folks,
I've been fairly quiet here and in other groups, but I wanted to extend my thanks to the community at large. We are already receiving a flood of warm receptions for the features and flexibility in the new version, and as the lead CF developer and general hands-on overhauler, I'm personally quite proud of the team Lawrence has assembled, and the results we've been able to turn out thus far. I'd also like to extend a hearty thanks to our beta testers, who have gone through the tiniest of details in this version so thoroughly and diligently.
As the presales continue, the feedback we are getting so far is a mixture of congratulations and 'what about...?'
There is so much to say and explain about what's new, what's different, and how it works in general. The main thing, from the programmer's standpoint, is the way we have bundled all the functions and SQL logic completely separately from any html/cfml/php output. This means, you can now use Cartweaver features, functions and content on any page of your PHP or ColdFusion site, more easily than ever before. You can make your Cartweaver work the way you need it to, often by changing a few attributes in a one line function call, or by finding the single function or page that handles a specific task, and adding what you need.
All of the output is assigned specific classes and IDs for easy CSS targeting, and we've added a theming system, so the entire look and feel of the cart can be changed with a single style sheet, and any related images. The admin also has a theming system, and has been completely reworked with CSS hooks so you can add your own themes and brand the admin area like never before.
More than anything, I'm excited to see people dig in to the code, wrap it up in their own designs, and make it their own.
I've already built a few sites with Cartweaver 4 for my own web clients, and the feedback from the site owners, the actual people who end up using this the most, has been great. They are able to find their way around very easily, and any custom settings are usually just hidden in the 'Developer' section of the admin, so I have lots of options to work my magic by changing a setting and giving them or their customers new functionality upon request.
As a long time Cartweaver user and developer, I'm proud to be part of such a great team for version 4. And as a member of the CF and web community at large, I'm eager to see what people build with our little box of eCommerce building blocks. As Lawrence noted there are some very basic live demos at http://www.yourcartweaverstore.com.
Looking forward to your feedback and questions in the forums at http://forums.cartweaver.com - also see the FAQ at http://www.cartweaver.com/faq

Cartweaver Application Development
Dear Sir, I watch your Course "Building An E-Commerce Web Site Using Dreamweaver With PHP" at Lynda.com. In this course you add that extention (cart weaver4). But you didn't provide cart weaver extnetion in expircise file. I have gone through cart weaver offical site. But it's paid extention.
My question to you can i get this extention free???
Hi Shan,
Cartweaver is not a free application, in fact there is no free, current Dreamweaver extension - but the good news is when I did the course for Lynda.com I spent quite a bit of the course covering generic ecommerce information that would apply to general open-source ecommerce apps. So you can go that route if you wish, and a lot of the course will still be helpful.
The fact that there is a Dreamweaver extension makes the learning curve a little easier, but Cartweaver is also developed to be used by general code developers as well, it is not dependant on the extension, so it provides the best of both worlds. But if you prefer a free app, there are many open source solutions out there that you may want to give a try.
Hope you find this helpful!
