matrox capture on desktop - no video on laptop

i captured video on my old desktop (digiVCap) , i have Premiere 1.5, but wanted to use my new latop w/i7 cores to edit

i couldn't get v1.5 to install so found premiere elements & have v10 installed

i downloaded & installed the matrox codecs after installing premiere elements

premiere elements loads my videos and plays audio only

do i need to uninstall/reinstall to pick up the codecs (or a reboot)??

the videos play fine on the laptop using divx (even before installing the matrox codecs)

    Do those matrox codecs indicate these 2 things...

     

    1-they will work without the matrox hardware

    2-they will work with P-Elements and not just P-Pro

     

    Without both being stated on the matrox download page, you may be out of luck

    I'm with John. Those matrox codecs are probably not something Premiere Elements can work with.

     

    What type of video source or camcorder are those videos coming from? There is probably a workflow or device that will create an editable format.

    i can capture in the following formats:

    DV/IEEE1394

    HDV

    Matrox AVI

    Matrox M2V

     

    i am using Matrox AVI as that was the format i could edit with Premiere 6 & 1.5

    should is use 1 of the others for editing with P-Elements?

    The two codecs that are NOT matrox will edit on a computer that does not have the matrox hardware

     

    For a SD (standard definition) tape based camera you would use DV AVI

     

    For an HD (high definition)  tape based camera you would use HDV

     

    Both of those are captured via Firewire aka 1394

    OK, i'll try the DV/IEEE codec

    i am using the 1394 interface from my camcorder

    Wait. What? You're getting video from a camcorder with an IEEE-1394 connection?

     

    Then why are you using a digitizer at all? Video captured over a FireWirec connection (miniDV or HDV) should be captured by Premiere Elements through an IEEE-1394 and it will be editable as is.

     

    Why are you getting this Matrox device in the mix? It's at the root of your problems!

    i bought this system years ago

    i haven't done any editing in a while so i thought i better grab the video off my tapes before they deteriorate

    i have a matrox RT.X100 card & Premiere 1.5 and that was what i always captured

    since my laptop has more power than my old desktop i was hoping to edit on there, once i had captured the video

    a lot has improved since then, & i have lightroom 3 and thought i would get the elements 10 (for photoshop editing of lightroom photos) and get p-elements 10 for doing the videos

     

    i don't have a 1394 interface on this laptop, but i'm sure my older 1 does

    so i should just capture using e10?

    Yes yes yes! Always use Premiere Elements to capture your video over an IEEE1394 connection whenever possible! It makes the best, smoothest editing experience possible!

    eventually i have to capture analog video i.e. beta & vhs (the matrox card is broke)

    is there a cheap capture card i can use with p-elements?

    I highly recommend against using a capture card or a cheap digitizer like Pinnacle's Dazzle. You'll only run into the same issues as you've had with the Maxtor video.

     

    As the FAQs to the right of this forum suggest, your best solutions are the Canopus AVDC and (if you can still find them) the ADS Pyro AV Link.

    chasing my tail now...

    tried to install p-e 10 on my desktop & i don't meet the hardware requirements...(probably missing SSE2 instructions)

    i am still trying to find a 1394 cable to go to my old laptop

    Does your laptop have an ExpressCard Slot, or a PCMCIA Slot?

     

    I have used the SIIG IEEE-1394A for PCMCIA, and it worked fine.

     

    For my IEEE-1394B (FW-800), I use the StarTec ExpressCard, but this is their IEEE-1394A ExpressCard.

     

    Those are NOT the cheapest of each type of card, which start at around US $ 14.00.

    i have installed p-e on another desktop that has the correct 1394 connector

    it installed fine, i plugged my camcorder in & it installed the device driver

    but, i don't see my DV camera in p-e?

    Does Windows see the camera?

     

    When plugged-in, and you turn it on, do you hear the "bing-bong," and see a Windows pop-up, saying that the camera has been recognized?

     

    If not, go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager, and look for the camera. Any warning, or error messages?

    i see the camera in device manager (& get the bing-bong when turned on)

     

    i was trying to capture from 'organizer'

    i turned my dv camera on & it stared p-e 10

    this time 'get from media' wasn't greyed out & i am capturing!!

    Mark,

     

    Great news!

     

    Yes, the Capture module is only in PrE (or PrPro, if one had that program). Glad that all is working well, especially as troubleshooting FW problems can take some time - checking cables, connectors on camera/computer and then the FW card/chip, and its driver, etc.

    i captured a 2 hr video, but i am using the trial version & it has a banner through the video '...trial version'

    will this go away when i get the paid version, or do i have to capture again?

    How can I remove the watermark from projects created with the trial version of the program?
