Text FX
Is it possible to apply text shadowing, contours, beveling, warping etc.... I see no abilities to manipulate the way text is displayed and can find no tutorials that demonstrate this ability.....
Do we have to wait for this basic feature ????
Thanks, IT-Koncern
Its obviously a low priority (but a mistake) to allow text to only be minimally exploited. This software potential has the ability to corner the market (pioneer) in the substitution of FLASH & Silverlight in HTML5 solutions. Banners are a huge percentage of what those technologies address and I hope that Adobe Edge wont miss the boat on this issue. Although I suspect this product will merge into existing products as a supplemental feature and therefore those package will address this short comming.
In the mean time... I found that the effect can be achieved by using duplicate elements and then pixel adjusting the position and color adjusting RGB + alpha vaules to achieve a less than satisfactory effect (TEXT FX)! Though I wanted to then merge those two elements into a single element after completion but wasnt able to.
Well, maybe preview 5 will offer some richer text manipulation features :-)
Thanks for the suggestion! One of the challenges we have with Edge is that we have so much great stuff we want to bring you that it's hard to fit everything in. While the type features are a bit lacklustre for now, we do want to improve them in the future.
In the meantime there's some great things you can do on your own using layered text as you descriebed or using CSS. I put together a type sample page here http://sarahjustine.com/edge/Typography/, some of those examples are already available in the Labs demo file section.
