Warp effect tool illustrator, I want to arc an image/tiff

Feb 25, 2012 4:34 AM

Can the arc tool in "Effects-warp" be used on a placed tiff? I have designed some labels and now the whole lot needs arcing to fit the bottle shape and the photo is not following all the type, is it possible to do this or can it be done in photoshop?

Well the answer is YES, what I failed to do was to embed the image first. Once embedded it worked perfectly!!!

I thought I would post this in case anyone else made the same mistake, hope it is helpful.

    Jackie,

You can (still) do it with a linked image (which does not take up space in the file) if you add a (vector) path with the same size and shape placed right on top of the image, and then select both and Effect>Warp>Arc. You can just select the image and see the position and size in the Transform while you create the rectangle to fit.

I followed the rule of playing it before saying it over there (I just checked it again in the draft file, and the image I used is linked). Are you sure you did select both and then arced?

    Jackie,

    What happens if you:

    0) Select both the linked image and the rectangle (placed above it in the stacking order) and Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Top Object,

    1) Apply the arc to the Envelope?

    0) should be unnecessary, but Illy has developed certain quaint behaviours with age; I am still with her in her youth so I cannot say whether this is one of them, nor can I test whether the suggestion makes any difference.

    Jackie,

It says "the selection contains objects which cannot be distorted"...:(

And the image does not show an unbendable thing, such as a (railway) rail?

Sorry, it was stronger than I.

It should work either way, and in 10 it works with just the linked image, without adding a rectangle at all.

But it might be one of the quaint behaviours. Here is a current thread about another one:

Maybe someone has told Illy that she can only work with vector artwork and has to leave anything with raster to others.
