CS5.5 iOS App Graphics Quality

Hello Adobe community,

 

Thanks for helping me out today. Here's my issue: I am designing my whole app in photoshop and currently in the process of moving all of the images to flash to add interactivity. The promblem is, when we put the app on the iphone the quality of the graphic is lowered for some reason.

 

When I am building in photoshop my settings:

640px by 960px

72 ppi

Saving out as a .jpg

 

When I send the jpg as a picture to my iphone 4 and view it in my "Photos" app, it looks great, but on the test app it loses quality.

 

Does anyone have anyone have any idea whats going on here?

    in flash, right click the bitmaps in the library, click properties and tick "allow smoothing".

    This only worked when we tested it in flash, but when we put it out to the iphone, it didn't look any different it still had the same unsmoothed edges. So could there be a setting when publishing as an IPA file.

    no, smoothing should work with the iphone.  but, if you're publishing for the iphone, use bitmaps sized correctly for the iphone.

    The settings I am using in Photoshop are:

    72 PPi

    640 x 960 pixels

    that's good for iphone4 but not other iphones that are 320x480.

    Well it must be something else because we are testing on iphone 4.

    then there's no resizing needed. 

     

     

    check your publish settings (file/publish settings/swf) to see if you're publishing jpeg's with less than 100% quality.

    Hi sorry for the delayed response.

     

    We checked this. It was on 80%. We thought this was success, but it turned out that nothing changed.

    Anything else we're not doing right?

    We just drag the jpeg or png to the flash canvas and center it. We have also tried a illustrator version to see if it worked but it looked the same.

    so, you've "imported" the bitmap to your fla's library?  if yes, and you're not resizing the bitmap, are you using "high" resolution in the iOS publish settings?

    that setting is in the "general" tab for the iOS publish settings.
