I'm trying to integrate SMP with Edgecast for a live streaming event. Edgcast demands users to use the FCSubscribe call. I didn't see any mention of this call in SMP source, so I'd like to know if there's any plan to implement it on future releases.
Thanks in advance
thanks for answering , guys.
Keep the good work with SMP. The proximity with the users and the quick response you provide will eventually make the difference between acceptance and ignorance, since there are many many players out there.
insteresting post about it here: http://www.therealtimeweb.com/index.cfm/2011/12/20/fcsubscribe-with-os mf
it presents a hack to connect FCSubscribe without the need of a plugin.
I used it and it works for OSMF with the Flex 4 VideoPlayer based on it.
But unlike what the post says, i did not set my video player source ater success of connection, it did not worked.
I set my source before, and the FCSubscribe is done after it and it worked ok.
I'm guessing that would be some kind of race condition or you already
called for the content since the content will not be ready to play until a
success is returned from FCSubscribe. You can test this by publishing new
streams with unique names(test1, test2 etc.). More than likely what you saw
was a stream that had already been made available from a prior FCSubscribe
attempt. It is important to verify the stream is available to play before
playing. That said, I know OSMF does do some retries but I do not know
the intricacies on the how/why. So maybe OSMF is doing it's retries while
you are doing the FCSubscribes.
