I have resolved all of the other issues I encountered developing a new course in Captivate (5.5 in a Windows XP environment using IE 6 and 8) and am now faced with what could, apparently, be a complete deal breaker for continuing to use Captivate for our course development moving forward.
Since these are corporate-level courses required to be completed by all employees in the company, I have to be able to enable reporting and put it on the corporate LMS (actually, we have 2 - one using SCORM 1.2 and the other using AICC). With reporting enabled, Exit (on the playbar) doesn't work.
I have reviewed many of the messages here and see now that this has been an ongoing "issue" apparently since Captivate 1. And, just as apparently it is still not working with Captivate 5.5... Really?? I have seen some responses indicating that it is not a Captivate issue but a browser issue. Again, really??
Cone on. I have seen (developed - not using Captivate) and used LOTS of online trainings and have not encountered this issue before. Why have "enable reporting" as an option if Exiting the course is not going to work?
There must be a workaround - some way to make this work so that users can actually exit a course in the middle somewhere and resume from that point rather than having to start from the beginning.
Any thoughts or recommendations? Admittedly, I am new to Captivate but I have resolved a number of issues and figured out workarounds for some of the other things that don't work well in Captivate (thanks in large part to kind assistance from others here) but this one seems to be a deadend with no resolution.
Is that really the case? I would hate to have to dump Captivate and start over with something else but if that's what it is going to take to get a course that will actually work with our systems here.....
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Michael
Jim – Thanks for the information. I really don’t want to add another button to the slides – that’s what the Exit button is supposed to be for, or so I thought. It would have to be added to every slide and I’m still not convinced the location information would be saved to the LMS so the user could just restart it from that location after exiting…
This seems to be such fundamental functionality. I’m really surprised Adobe hasn’t addressed this by now.

No - you misunderstand me.
Captivate reports constantly. repeatedly. On each slide. By default.
Whether there is an exit button or not.
There is a new publish setting that was added to CP 5 and is in CP 5.5 by
default. The setting make Captivate only report att he end of the course.
But it still reports without the exit button. Once a score is posted o the
screen, it is also posted to the LMS. Others here undoubtedly know more
detail about the feature.
All you need to do to send tracking data at the end only, is choose the
SendTrackingDataAtEnd template when you SCORM publish
Steve
In the quiz preferences when you click SCORM or AICC, there is a drop down next to the template option. SendTrackingDataAtEnd is an option in the template drop down.
I'm having problems with exiting. I've created an exit button and used the rdcmndExit variable and created a standard action that assigns 1 to this variable. I then attached this action to the button. But even viewing this in a browser doesn't close down the module. I don't think that this is vital for reporting, once you reach the results slide then the results are sent, but I'm having a problem with reporting in that it will only report to the LMS when passed, not if the delegate has failed.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot
Sorry - the picture above is the reporting screen....Thanks
