Keyboard shortcut for 'Preview in Browser' in Mac OS X [subject edited by moderator]

Hi

I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.4 using DW CS5.5

I have the smaller (not numeric) apple keyboard.

My shortcut for preview in browser is alt F12, but when I try this I just go into my sound and volume controls.

(I have set up a primary - Sarari - and secondary - Chrome - browser for preview)

I have tried the Cmnd F12 for another browser, but same problem.

I tried changing the shortcut in Preferences, but with no luck.

Please could you suggest a solution.

I need to preview websites constantly and it is really tedious to have to keep using the top panel.

Exactly the same problem here.

Just taken delivery of my new iMac complete with latest Adobe suite.

Like you say reverting back to the long way 'round is a right pain.

That said, I was beginning to think it was my setup until I eventually found your post.

I have no solution just a token comment that might help coax a solution

from some clever bod out there.

You can create your own shortcuts.

Edit < Keyboard Shortcuts

and use the wizard to create your own.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I've just had a quick look at the wizard and I'm

not sure it can be fune-tuned to give you the

Primary and Secondary browser preview options can it?

It only lists 'Preview in Browser' and 'Edit Browser List'

Besides there are existing shortcuts for these functions (Option F12 and Command F12).

There are many DW5.5 / Lion glitches, only I cannot find this particular one documented

anywhere.

No click the Edit menu button in the top left corner of DW. Then down towards the bottom of that list should be KeyBoard Shortcuts. Thats where you edit and add new shortcuts.

However ... I tried something else (Chris) ... I went to DW 'service preferences' ... then 'keyboard' ... and clicked on 'Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys' and that seems to have worked!

Although, who knows what else that will effect ... we see.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yep that works. Obviously all the F buttons no longer do what they did

but I suppose it depends on how often you would use those shortcuts anyway.

With F12 being the volume up shortcut it's no problem using the slider in the menu bar

once in a while. It's also interesting that when pressed in isolation F11 and F12 now perform

interesting screen wipes.

Helo all, had the smae problem did an web search and found the answer to this problem.

Under the 'Keyboard' tab in "System Prefs' check the box that says' Use all F1, F2 keys as standard function keys..'.

Yeah I found the shortcuts menu item (under 'Dreamweaver' on a mac)

But it doesn't give the option to add a shortcut to 'Preview in Browser'.

Or if it does, I haven't worked out how.

In the meantime I will probably revert to Nancy's methodology until

Adobe address the problem.

I preview often as well.  Keep browsers open.  Save your document in DW.  Switch to browser and hit refresh (F5).  Works with all open browsers.

So you need to assign another shortcut key combination that is not already being used by your system (some trial and error may be required).

I followed these directions and it wanted me to make a copy set of the shortcuts, which I did.  I then changed the ctrl F12 to another keyboard combo.  Afterwards, I then tried to do a preview and the cursor was spinning like it was trying to do something, but no preview.  It tried and then quit trying.

Deciding that did not work, I went back in to edit shortcuts and reselected the standard installed set of shortcuts.  I was afraid of this...now the original ctrl F12 does not work even though it shows that is what is assigned to the preview.

I'd like to at least get back to what I had.  Is there anyway to fix his / reset to install values withut reinstalling the software??

Once I identified my primary and secondary browsers in preferences, I opened the keyboard shortcuts menu and selected 'Document editing' under the 'Commands:' options. Scroll down and you should have the options for setting shortcuts for Preview in Primary and Secondary Browser.

As long as you set the shortcut keys to not interfere with the default system keys, you can leave the standard set of function keys at the system default.

On an apple keyboard, you just have to hold down the 'fn' key to access the functions. So the shortcut is really 'fn+opt+F12'

If you do that, then you don't have to change your system preferences. ('fn+delete' will give you backspace.)

In Preferences > Preview in Browser, be sure to set both the primary and secondary browsers.

For apple keyboard, primary will be 'fn+opt+F12' and secondary will be 'fn+cmd+F12'
