strange things happening with cursor

Feb 29, 2012 2:01 PM

Working away in ps cs5 and click on the direct selection tool and all I get is the hand (move) tool and what ever tool I click on I just get the hand tool! This happened in indesign too. It goes back to normal if I reboot and just found that when i opened illustrator while having this prob in ps and then went back to photoshop the problem rectified. Bit frustrating and wondering if anyone else is having this prob?

Is it possible somehow your spacebar is getting stuck down?

Press and release the space bar when it happens and see if it clears up.

What OS version are you using?

There have been bugs in video drivers that cause the cursor to not update like it should.

10.7.3 is supposed to have fixed most of the video driver bugs introduced in 10.7.

Please provide more details to Apple so they can track down and fix the remaining driver bugs.

I am having a similar problem in Photoshop and Illustrator (CS3) on a Dell XP workstation. The tools act erratically, as though the ALT and CTRL keys are stuck. It started in a minor way several months ago and has gotten progressively worse. For no apparent reason, the problem will resolve on its own, and then return. I updated and reinstalled the software, updated the drivers, and replaced the keyboard, Wacom tablet, and mouse. I also replaced the workstation with an unused mirror of the computer. The Photoshop, Illustrator, and the Bridge preferences were reset, deleted, and reset again. This computer is not connected to the internet. It is, however, connected to a secure, closed network. Any help in resolving this long-standing problem would be greatly appreciated.

Something Zeno Bokor mentioned in another thread on this forum...  There's a Windows Accessibility feature called "Sticky Keys" that that could be getting enabled.  I don't know whether XP had "Sticky Keys", but look in the Help and see if you can deconfigure it if so.

StickyKeys has been available since Windows 95 so yes, it might very well be that. Starshyyn, try pressing Shift 5 times rapidly and see if it fixes/causes your problem or go to Control Panel->Accesibility Options to set it from there.
