Updating to Elements 10 from 6, with a Twist

Hello,

I am looking for the best way to update from version 6.0 to 10.0, but of course there has to be a wrinkle in what would otherwise be a simple process. (Windows 7)

When I ran version 6 I had all my photos on a network drive (a Pogoplug for those of you familiar with those) it was accessed via drive letter P on my system. Pogoplug proved to be highly unstable and unreliable, so I ended up switching to a Western Digital My Book Live NAS drive. All of the photos are moved over to the new drive (Letter T on my system now) so now I am needing to both upgrade to the newer version, as well as "teach" it where the new drive is. I upgraded my laptop and discovered that just starting as if it was brand new resulted in a lot of duplicate pictures showing up in my catalog that did not previously show up. (The biggest giveaway is I can see two exact copies of a photo that for one reason or another ended up in two places within my photos folder, one has all the correct tags we put on them, the other copy of the photo has no tags on it) So when I install my wife's copy on her laptop I would like to avoid this problem if possible. I saw an option where it "sensed" that I had version 6 and it offered to upgrade to 10, but I"m guessing it will have a problem finding the photos since their location changed to a new NAS drive. Any tips on this weird situation?

Thanks!

P.S. If anyone knows a quick way to get rid of the duplicates in the organizer that don't have my keyword tags quickly I'd love to know that as well!

Are you saying that on your upgraded notebook, when you click on a photo that has the tags, it's location is given as "P:\..."; and that when you click on the other instance of the same photo (that doesn't have tags), it's location is given as "T:\..."?

If so, do the photos with tags (and locations of "P:\...") have the "Missing file" icon on them?

Ah...if I'm understanding you correctly, you have two problems:

    1. You have an upgraded notebook PC with PSE10 installed.  When you installed PSE10, you had it update the existing PSE6 catalog.  The PSE10 Organizer catalog now has two copies of each photo -- one copy with tags and one copy without tags.
    2. You wife's PC has PSE6 installed.  It's Organizer's catalog has only one copy of each photo listed, and those have tags.  You want to know the best way of installing PSE10 so that it's catalog only contains one copy of the photos, with tags.

    Do I have it right?

    OK, for problem #2, then:

Since your P: drive does not exist, do the photos in her PSE6 Organizer have a missing file icon on them?

If so, does PSE6's Organizer have a File...Reconnect...All Missing Files option?  You can pause the reconnection process to point the reconnection to look on your new T: drive.
