I'm a freelance designer working in the UK. Can someone at Adobe please confirm that I can buy a DPS single edition in the UK? I think I can, but it still says I can't in the DPS opening page.
Also, I understand that by buying a single edition, I'm able to publish a single app, but I'm unclear about buying multiple single editions and the relationship with the viewer builder. If I have a client who wants to publish four digital publications per year, can I buy 4 single editions and place the 4 folios in a client branded multi-issue viewer builder, or will each folio have its own viewer builder? I feel that I need to properly understand this before I approach prospective clients.
Thank you for any guidance you can give.
DPS Single Edition is available in the UK. See: https://store2.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-UK&eve nt=displayProduct&categoryPath=%2FApplications%2FDPSSingle
You have the ability to purchase multiple licenses for Single Edition per year. You have to create 4 individual viewers.
From a customer experience, you are talking about a periodical publication (published 4 times a year). A multi-folio viewer (kiosk) with 4 folios would be a better route / solution. This will require a DPS Pro subscription.
When you go down the road of using four 'single' applications, there are chances that Apple will ask you to convert this into a multi-folio app anyway after some time (because of the customer experience); I have heard about this happening in Europe.
With kind regards,
Thanks for clarifying that.
I think the DPS Pro subscription may be a little too much for my clients. If I understand correctly, it would mean paying £346.86 per month plus $2995 for 10,000 folio downloads?
Whereas a flat fee of £289.05 per app seems more attractive. But I take your point about Apple wanting you to convert to a multi-folio app. Maybe, if my clients can't afford the Pro subscription, I suggest that the singlle edition should be viewed as a one-off.
You are correct. Single Edition should be considered for one-off publications.
What you might want to look at is the 'Agency use' for DPS Pro. Basically you (or any agency) could take subscription for DPS Pro and creates apps for clients. (not only for the one your are working with currenlty, but also your future clients)
If that is one step to far ahead, you might want to work with a current licensee to see if he can help you publish the app. For example in the UK, you might want to sent a message to 'mobly' (on the these DPS forums). He is in the UK and might be able to help you.
With kind regards,
Can you give a rough idea of what the creation limitations are (in terms of number of apps and folios) with the "Agency use" for DPS Pro? Is the cost for "Agency use" about the same as a normal Pro account or is it significantly higher? Can the "Publisher" information in the app store and markets be set differently for each client so their name shows up as the publisher and not ours? How does Adobe define a folio download when it comes to using up the pre-paid download credits, is it only when an entire folio is downloaded or is it anytime an article change occurs and is downloaded?
