Just got an email from Adorama that I can order LR 4 now since it was "just released". Don't see any announcement on the typical sites yet but it must be close.
It's true! In the beta, I just checked for updates and got:
!!!
$98.75 Aus for the download upgrade. Despite the fact that the $Aussie is worth more than the $US. You get this weird double standard where I don't pay the Australian Goods and Services tax because I'm downloading it from a foreign server, but because I'm downloading it from Australia, Adobe will charge me an extra twenty something dollars. If I want the hardcopy rather than the download I have to pay 128$Australian as I get hit with 10 per cent GST plus some extra cost. Bizarre pricing.
Is lightroom 4 going to be included in the cloud subscription? Because if it is that might just make the subscription worthwhile and I should hold off buying the stand alone upgrade.
Yes I think I will hold off as Adobe Creative Cloud is due to launch this Spring. That will allow download of Lightroom 4 and all the CS6 products in Master Suite, for a commitment to an annual subscription billed at US$49 per month. I think this is going to be a game changer as all products will be available to subscribers to use on a multi-platform basis e.g. one desktop copy on Windows PC plus the second copy on a Mac laptop. Together with the touch products for tablet and smartphone devices.
Adobe will still sell the boxed products on the traditional basis and those may continue to appeal to people who only upgrade every three or four years.

Sweet! Any word on student discount pricing?
I recall reading somewhere that student/education pricing will be $79 ... can't recall where, I visited quite a few blogs today ... not sure when that will be available either ... sometimes the student/education versions are a later follow-on item after the initial introduction.
Sooner or later you gotta consider 50% off the full retail price as a bargain ... I mean Adobe does have to keep the lights on after all ... some developers wouldn't even come close to a 50% discount ... and don't get me started on those of us who have been paying out full price for each generation ... and now see newbees get a whopping 50% off for the full version ... and we only get 20% off for the upgrade ...
