Hi.

A new document will always have a backround. Create a new layer and you can delete the background.

If your creating a new document with File>New, choose Transparent under Background Contents.

hi and thanks for helping

I created a new document and selected a transparent background but the layer is white.

"A new document will always have a backround. Create a new layer and you can delete the background."

I have tried that but still I dont see the transparent background, i'm still left with a white background, so simple probably but I can't seem to get it.

Back where we started. Crtl+A will select all, then hit delete. The layer will be transparent. Or create a new layer and delete the white one.

What do you have set in the Edit - Preferences - Transparency dialog for the Grid Colors?

I ask, because you can instruct Photoshop not to put up the checkerboard pattern that's displayed by default.

What happens if you go to Edit>Preferences>Performance and uncheck: Enable OpenGL Drawing?

(restart photoshop and try making a new transparent document)
