Broken links not reported broken in links panel, preflight does report them as broken

We have a strange problem.

Indesign document resides on a server (I know Adobe does not support that). When we open the document, the links panel reports no broken links. But there really are broken links. Prefilght does correctly report them.

Anybody having this problem and/or know a solution?

(Indesign CS 5.5, Max OsX 10.6.8)

Thanx.

Josha.

Are these links in placed pages, rather than links that are directly placed in the document? I suspect ID does not check nested links during file opening so would not report them then, though they ought to show up in the panel.

I'd try the usual troubleshooting suspects:

    Restore your preferences: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990

Save the file as IDML: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526991

This is weird. Have you followed the two recommendations for weird behavior: trash your ID preferences, and export your document to IDML?

What maintenance version are you running? Hold down Cmd and select About InDesign.

Can you post a screenshot of the links panel and hte preflight panel showing this problem, please?

HA! I was reporting the same problem and while trying to get a good screen shot, solved it (for me, anyway).

The status column in the links panel was not visible because it was way to the right of the link name. Pull the panel off of the menu, expand it so that you can see all the columns in the panel, and contract the individual columns so the status column is visible a narrower panel view, and return the panel to the menu.

I hope this screen shot will help explain.solved.jpg

I have experienced this with files that I had updated from an earlier version… To CS5 on 10.6.8 If you select a link and click the link info triangle are a lot of the expected properties such as effective resolution and such missing? I got no preflight errors or link warnings but low res bitmaps in *.pdf In my case the suggestion in post 5 of IDML fixed this…

@Noyster2 – even in the "Before" example you can see in the "Link Info" part of the panel the "Status:" of the image as "Missing".
