Big Fan - But Let Down by ACR Update

Mar 10, 2012 8:42 AM

I was probably amongst the first to download LR4 in Ireland and have used it since V1.0. I work and teach with it all the time and recommend it to students (I have over 400 so far at a major online photography school). I also have CS4 and Elements 10 installed.
I'm disappointed to see that LR4 will not take images directly from lightroom into Photoshop - with all the process version 2012 changes intact - unless ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) version 6.7 is installed. Only the RC version is available now for CS5 and Elements 10 users will need to wait until later in the month when the official version is released.
It's taken the shine off it a bit for me, I have to say. Any help (from Adobe) would be appreciated.

Doesn't it offer you to have Lightroom render the image? That will have the exact same effect as having it rendered by ACR 6.7 and should work with any external software.

You could see it the other way around.

Be glad to be able to try, experiment and use LR 4 already ( with still some bugs in it) and enjoy the discovery of the ACR 7 tools it contains.

A little bit of time and it will all be there.

For now 6.7RC in Photoshop accepts the LR  2012 PV but does not give you the tools.( Do CTRL  -E  and Open Anyway).

    Don't forget number 5

    Enjoy !

    Have a nice weekend !

When you do an Edit in Photoshop, it should throw up a dialog that says

that the ACR versions do not match. You simply select "render using

Lightroom" from this dialog and Lightroom will render a tiff and send it to

Photoshop/Elements/etc. If you don't see this dialog, go to Preferences ->

General, and hit "reset all warning dialogs".

ACR 6.7 applies only to CS 5.

To open in CS 4 you do CTRL-E and  Render Using Lightroom  it will create a Tiff that when doing CTRL-S in Photoshop will be saved back in LR.
