add new symbols directly to an open symbols library previously created

right now I believe to do this I have to open an existing symbols library I created previously, drag all its contents to the main symbols palette, together with my new object (to be made into a symbol), then save that out replacing the existing symbols library,

i`d like to just open the existing library, and drag the new object into that libraries palette to add it.
