http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJn34x3dLj0&feature=share why the hell cant I play this stupid video ???
My other computers can play it... Below is what it looks like on the broken pc. Notice the plug-in version: not installed ???
When I saw this same graphic image in the Adobe help files, it showed the same numbers for each the activex version and the plug in versions.
When looking at my other pc's, the numbers are different. ((Why dont you just call it a flash player version and not confuse us with two seperate entries that could be different??))
I have tried every known trick in the book on the internet from registry entries to reinstalling codecs packs and even flash player. If you think I havent checked it, ask and I will give you a yes or no.
None of my friends stupid youtube videos give sound on this pc. WHY ?
When I told him they dont work, he said, they work on my end. So I ran to my son's room, and what do I see, but the audio for this video works fine.
Now not only do I have to listen to him play guitar on youtube more often now, but I have to admit that in my arrogance, there is something uniquely wrong with this pc.
Well, I tried that already. I knew it would be something simple. Unfortunately, thats not it. I see so M$ calls it an activex and the others call it a plugin, makes sense now. Chrome plays the video the same way even though that entry is greyed out when accessed from Chrome. So for that info I will mark your post as helpful. If it said current version only, it would make more sense to me as I thought there was more to using the player then just having a current version number at first. Thanks for clarifying that. From Chrome that entry is greyed out and no update is possible. Let's fix IE8 first and worry about Chrome later. If you want me to uninstall Chrome for the sake of fixing this issue please let me know. But I will eventually get to reinstall the player plugin for it too.
Google Chrome does not need the plug-in as it has an embedded Flash Player.
Start I.E., go to a video, click the Speakers icon, click Mixer and check the sound level of Internet Explorer.
If that does not solve the problem, try this web site: http://www.codecguide.com/fix_for_flash_sound_problems.htm
10. Check if the file msacm32.drv is present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder. If not, copy it from another PC (that has the same version of Windows) and place the file in the system32 folder.
msacm32.drv file appears to be there but is unassigned.
as I am running XP, and not windows7, the mixer for xp does not have the same configuration and the wave slider and volume settings on my pc are NOT the issue as per my original post. I know you are in a more difficult position then I am trying to help a stranger, but the title does read Some Videos. I was hopeing to clarify the problem with that kind of wording so that you would know I have sound everywhere else and infact only SOME youtube videos dont have sound, but most do have sound.. Weird huh !??
I also already followed instructions for checking the registry entries, as indicated by my post. However your link included more details and I find that the file msacm32.drv is unassigned within the system32 folder, but there are alot of unassigned files there. Because my sound mapper works and I can hear sounds, I dont thing this is the direction we should go.
I also installed the kazalite codec suite at the risk of uninstalling all my original codecs.
If I were to guess, I believe there is a strange codec at play here both from my friends camera software and then youtube. Typically I thought youtube had a standard way of rendering a video so they were all the same output. Apparently I was wrong, and there needs to be the same codec on the client pc. Since I can play the file on my other pc, I am without it for some reason. I dont think its a setting. I am /should be/ more advanced then just that although I digress I am just as stupid as anyone sometimes.
I should have my friend email me the original file before youtube, and see if I am able to play it locally...
Guess what I hear sound for that link...
This is driving me crazy... why can I hear some of his videos and not all of them...
