Hi
and thanks for a fast response, but there is something I do not understand:
What's the difference betweensingle multi column text frames and multiple single column text frames???
I mean, I have been teaching English as a first foreign language for 36 years in Norway, lived in the US and UK for about 2 years ++ and regard myself pretty good at your language, but the difference between those two phrases beats me, I am afraid. So I guess I am stuck. I teach Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop to 16-17 year-olds here, and it would come in very handy to know as much as possible about the
software.
I would really appreciate to be enlightened if you have the time, please.
Yours sincerely

Hi
thanks for a quick response. Someoen else responded, too. Excellent!
I tried to do what the instruction video showed, but I cannot make it work. Sorry, but cannot explain more than what that video showed.
I simply imported some text and tried exactly what the video told me to, but alas - it did not work.
The other response I got was about single multi columns and multiple single columns, but what on earth is the difference in meaning between those to phrases?
Having been a teacher of the English language for 36 years does not seem to help me to understand the difference there.
Yours sincerely,

First off…all of the responses here are being posted on the web based user to user forum so there’s no need to respond to everything unless there’s a specific interaction.
When you have more than one column on a page you have two option.
1. Draw several frames. One for each column.
2. Draw one frame, and using the Text Frame Options dialog create multiple columns within that frame.
It is the second option that will allow you to span columns.

For me it worked, but not very well. My text has a footnote in the text I want to split, so the footnote text now is in the splitted text, not at the bottom of page.
I tried to get the same result using a table, but it is not possible to insert footnotes in a table.
Finally, I created a frame (anchored as inline graphic) for the text on the left column; however, in this case the wrapping does not work well (the first line of the right text is still over the frame, even if I set an offset. So I hat also to change the left indent for the text which comes on the right...
It is sad tha InDesign does not support this kind of things, which are very often necessary in scientific books.
