Now to make a curved graphic banner?

Mar 15, 2012 12:36 PM

I have a rectangle 1" high x 6" wide with curved corners that I need to change the overall shape and then place type on top.

The two words of type were set on a curved path. The rectangle has to match the curve of the type.

The rectangle would be curved along the top and bottom edge and both edges would be parallel.

I cannot figure out how to do this. Each time I change the anchor points and drag the handles to match the curve of the type, something is always askew!

I tried two ellipses overlapping and then use Pathfinder to delete a portion, but then I loose the straight edges on the left and right.

How to do this? Please be specific!

Much thanks. :-)

I would start with a single curved path (use the pen tool -- click and release for the first end, click at the midpoint and drag control handles out before releasing, then click and release at the other endpoint) that is the shape you want for the top, bottom, and type. Duplicate the path once to make the second side of the banner and position where you want it. Select the end points of the two paths (one end at a time) and join them. You can put the type directly on this path, or you can add one more duplicate just for the type.

You can create this shape with the Pathfinder, use the Combine Tool with the following shapes:

If you have illustrator - draw a rectangle and the Arc it using the Warp in Filters

Then copy and paste the path to Indesign...
