....but this is about a e-book that people have to buy online to access.
I pretend to first have a free small sample of the ebook in pdf file just to show some pictures of the e-book but I am able to create pdfs on illustrator. The e-book to sell in AI format and I have a licence but not sure about the pdf thumbnail view I want to have online??
That's because it is a vectorial e-book and most of the times illustrator is the most required.
But if you could answer this two questions I guess I will be completely clarified: Do I need adobe reader licence just to put some samples of the e-book available on the site? If I want to create a version of the e-book in pdf I need the licence?
You need a license to install and operate software. You don't need any permission from anyone but the author (you) to do what you want with the files you make using that software. This is universal. You don't need permission from the hammer manufacturer to use the furniture you make with it.
One uses lots of tools to make furniture, often including a hammer. One uses lots of tools to make a PDF document, often including Illustrator (and an OS, a mouse, a keyboard, a monitor, a hard drive, a font manager, fonts...)
