i already noticed you cant edit code in contribute, but what do you do when you need to edit php pages?

Edit the page using "File > Actions > Edit Page Source in External Application". Please refer to the blog post, http://blogs.adobe.com/contribute/2010/05/edit_web_page_source_in_an_e xt.html

yes, thank you, i was interested in the php part of the editing, which an external editor wont show me.
