Aspect ratio glitch.

Mar 18, 2012 6:08 AM

I'm encountering a strange bug (I think). I've upgraded to the latest tools and now one of my articles won't preview using Overlay Creator. I get this error message: "Page size aspect ratio must match folio aspect ratio". What's strange is that the vertical version works fine and if I import them both into Folio Builder they both work fine. It's only when I try to preview the _h file using the Overlay Creator panel.

All the pages are 1024 x 768 in both orientations. No smooth scrolling enabled anywhere.

It's not a huge problem, but I have to present a class on DPS this Wednesday and it could be a bit embarrasing.

These are the things I've tried so far:

  • Tried the same files on two separate macs
  • Tried renaming the files and opening them again
  • Have checked each page size and they're all 1024 x 768px.

Any thoughts?

That's odd. I can't reproduce it. Did you you use Page tool to edit a page size? Does it happen for new documents you create?

I have the same problem. Cannot upload a layout into a 2048 PDF folio.

Get the error message when I try to upload a 768x3030 px file into my magazine. It has only one orientation.

Uploading a 768x1024 works fine. I use the page tool to change the size of the one page afterwards and when I try to update — same error message.

Changing the article format to PDF to PNG does not help.

Saving the file with a _v suffix neither.

    is this really that rare?

    Using producer tools 19.1.

Is a smooth scrolling option selected?

hm, what I am missing here? (I didn't sleep much in the past days ,-)

the smooth scrolling option isn't available when using PDF format.

    Here is a replication:

Creating the Article, a new document at 768x1024 size into a 2048 folio

    Bildschirmfoto 2012-03-20 um 09.38.27.png

    The article gets uploaded correctly.

Visiting the properties of this article, smooth scrolling is set to off and disabled:

I understand that Pinch&Zoom isn't avilable for smooth scrolling articles. But here it looks that I even can't set it to smooth scrolling if they are PDF.

The option is available when using PNG format.

    My version info:

You should be seeing a Smooth Scrolling pop-up menu. Can you try clearing your Local Host cache folders and resetting preferences in InDesign? I have a feeling that different versions of InDesign aren't playing nicely with each other.

You confirmed in another thread that smooth scrolling isn't available for

PDF folios. This is my problem.

Could not try resetting because I haven't access to my computer yet. The

setting was disabled in the folio producer as well.

Will switch to PNG for these articles for now.

I found this happending with the demo files when using the Overlay Creator to preview on the desktop. By changing the document setup to another page size (ie - iPad 3 settings of 2048 x 1536, save, and then change back to 1024 x 768) it would work again.

    (fyi)

Smooth Scrolling is available for PDF folios. You cannot, however, do it through the "Add" option. You must add pages via "Import" and pull them from a folder.

Note: This does not make these imported files PDF format, even if you set them as such. It overrides and reverts them to JPG.

Therefore, you can still have smooth scrolling pages in a PDF folio, but be aware they will render/behave differently then the other articles within the folio.
