Cannot open Sony A900 raw files in Photoshop Elements 10

Aug 8, 2012 1:18 PM

new installation of elements 10, replacing elements 8.  Unable to open raw files (sony alpha 900)  adobe camera raw is not listed in the plug in menu, automatic updates is up to date, attempts to download camera raw 6.4 result in a message saying the update is not applicable to the application.

Try this download for the ACR 6.6 update:

The out of the box version is not up to date.

In the Windows version I had to click "Help" in the menu  and there "look for updates" or something like this and it installed Camera Raw 6.6 almost automatically.

    Hope this helps,

    Peter

See if this Adobe document helps:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407110.html

(My suspicion is that you'll need to perform Step #2 -- uninstall and re-install PSE.)

EDIT Sorry, I see you do really have PSE 10. Ken's link should clear it up for you.

In windows you can't really have more than one version open at a time, if that's what you mean, although you can have multiple versions installed on the same machine.

It comes with a version of camera raw, and you can update it, but you have to do it manually by a rather involved process, rather than getting automatic updates via the adobe updater.

Before going through the document it would be helpful to select the Help > Look for updates option. Some users reported it fixed the Camera Raw 6.6 problem automatically.

If you are facing trouble opening your clicked images in Elements, there is an elaborate document which covers a number of errors, problems, and lists solutions for the same. The document can be found at: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/troubleshoot-camera-raw-photo shop-photoshop.html

Latest ACR update for PSE10 is 6.6 . Please check Adobe Camera Raw page on Adobe.com if Sony Alpha 900 is supported in this plugin or not.
