UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD FLASH PLAYER

      I have been unsuccessfully attempting to download Flash Player on IE and Mozilla.  When i get to the "install" window on both browsers it says that download will commence once browsers are closed.  When i close browsers i am unable to access Adobe without a browser opened.??

    Hi, Do you have a link to the website that you are using? Does the message say that the Installation will proceed, instead of the download?

     

     

    I'm not clear what site you are on to be receiving this message.

    Download the executable installers from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html and save them to disk, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installers.http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

    Hi, I would like to add to what Pat posted and that is to make sure you download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller first

    from here:

     

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

     

    Then download and SAVE the Installer for IE and the Installer for FF(plug-in) to your Desktop.

     

    Once you have those on your Desktop, then Close all browsers.

    Be sure to use the Administrator Account for this.

    Check the system tray(area near the clock) and disable any instant messengers, like yahoo, msn, aol, etc.

     

    Also you may want to Disable any Anti-Virus that you use as some can block the Install. Re-enable when finished with this.

     

    Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.

    Then Run the IE Installer and then the FF Installer, when finished, Reboot.

     

    Test each browser here and you should be able to see the Flash logo animation and the vs of Flash Player will be displayed.

    Also you may want to print this out to make it easier.

    I am having the same failure, fails to initialize. I will now follow your advice, saving uninstall and BOTH installs to desktop. Rebooting after each operation.

    Wish me luck, am nearing throwing computer into firepit for warmth.

    You can also find the uninstallers and full installers at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550

     

    Make sure you download the correct executables (32-bit or 64-bit) for your system.

    Hi Pat-

     

      I have unistalled/re-installed with no result.  I believe there is a compatibility issue between the latest (.63) Flash and Firefox 10. I’ve even updated to Firefox 11. Same warning….”update Flash NOW”…and when I try, “initialization failed”.

    And you downloaded the uninstaller / installers from the link I posted earlier?  I don't think so; that message only appears if you use the standard installer.

     

    B.t.w. what is your Windows version & edition?

    Yes, I followed instructions to the letter.  I'm getting pretty quick at it...I've used Reg cleaner/defrag/CleanUp/etc so my re-boot times are minimised.

    And I always exit Malwarebytes, my virus software, before attempt.

    Windows XP Home 2002 service pack 3. I've even established a clean restore point, since...after each failed attempt, I'm left with no flash player at all.

    I'm downloading the 32 bit uninstaller from your link, a 229kb file. Saved in 'my downloads', or saved shortcut to desktop, browsers open, browsers closed, it's all the same.

    "Failed to initialize"

    I found this little infonugget at MozillzZine.

    The Flash uninstaller may not remove all Flash plugin files from all locations so you should search for and delete the following files, if found:

    • NPSWF32.dll
    • flashplayer.xpt
    • GetFlash.exe
    • GetFlash.exe.manifest
    • NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe

    I'll try this next, if I can figger out how....

    No joy.  I did find four NPSWF32.dll which I deleted.  Had high hopes. Am reminded of the axiom that, if you keep doing the same damn thing expecting a different result...you may be a redneck.  Or, was that a corrolary? Nevermind, I HATE FIREFOX now.  Does this help?

    Thank you for the FlashInstall.log file; I can see that there are many errors or warnings during the uninstall process. However, I cannot see any attempts to run the installers - could it be that the error occurs before it starts logging?

     

    Two things to try:

    1. a clean install; it's almost the same as you have already done, but a bit more thorough: http://http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315
    2. if the install still fails, can you try to run this Microsoft tool: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

    I tried the two things you suggested, no joy.

    But, undaunted...I learned from your Fixit tool that I was missing two killbits activex updates, so I fixed.

    Then...when checking my Java performance, (suggested elsewhere on da web), I learned I had SEVEN old Java versions that needed uninstalling. I didn't know this about Java!

    So I deleted almost 900meg of old Java program.

    Rebooted and loaded both new Flash (.exe and .msi) and...............................................................etc ...................

    YA-HOO IT'S A GO!

    Me either, and I still don't with any certainty.  I did 2 different fixes at once.  Uploading 2 "killbits actvex" updates in Windows, then uninstalling my 7 outdated Java files.

    Which operation was the fix.....

    But thanks again! Your suggestions gave me the inspiration to keep up the fight; not take hammer to cpu.

    Isn't there an executable file that you can send to me?  I am not computer savvy and I tried using the uninstall feature, and it worked, however when flash goes to open up, it stays stuck at 0% then becomes unresponsive, and I have to stop it .

    I really appreciate you trying to help me.  I downloaded the 32 bit version

    and tried to open it and run it, but I received a box that only showed me an

    error box with a red circle and an x through it, the ok button, and the

    title of Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller on it.

    I just tried it again and received an error msg that stated "Certificate

    authentication failed, please re-install to correct the problem."

    OK, do the following please.

    1. If you have the Firefox view with the oblong orange button top left, hit the ALT key to get the text links. Then click Help | Restart with add-ons disabled.

    8. Run the Flash uninstaller to remove Flash player (even if you think it's not installed).
    9. Next, double click the Flash installer you downloaded to install Flash.
    10. Finally, re-enable your antivirus.

     

    Should work.
