LR3 Catalogs and External Hard-drives

I'm using LR3 to process my photos. To save space on my laptop, I backed up my files on 2 external harddrives using a copy and drag method. I then deleted the originals on my laptop. When trying to open up my files in LR3 that were saved on my externals, it said that it can't be imported. What can I do to access the edits I previously made, or to be able to re-import the pictures (aside from renaming the files)?

    In the Lightroom Library Module, go to the Folder Panel on the left, right-click on the top level folder and select "Find Missing Folder" or "Update Folder Location". Then point LR to the new location of the photos.

     

    If the top-level folder doesn't show in the Folder Panel, right-click on a folder and select Show Parent.
