Is there a way to create a pan / zoom effect similar to how it operates in iBooks author - ie the user can pull the image off of the page to pan and zoom around it in full screen then pinch it back into place?

Doesn't this require 6 images? I was thinking it may be possible to cut one image into 6 and have it re - stich together using this effect, but surely it would add the 'panorama effect' in that it would warp the images to give the illusion of distance? I'd just like to be able to zoom in on one image - say a photograph that is highly detailed, in order that the user can have a really close look.
