using the capture with the canopus converter

The other day I was able to capture an dvd to it's end.  Today I'm working with another old dvd that I want to capture in CS4 however, it quits 18 mintutes into the capturing stating max amount has been captured. I think I may have my set points wrong. Can someone send me a visual of how these are suppose to look if the dvd is over an hour long. I would so appreciate it!

    18 minutes sounds like FAT32.

    If that is the case your drives need to be NTFS.

    Make sure you have a backup.

    I think convert to ntfs worked, however now "my disc is full" message popped up. I went to my hard drive to open it and clean out some stuff and I'm gettting a message to "format the disc". Then I go to format and I get a warning that if I format it, I may lose all my stuff off that disc.  Oh, my this has never happened. Help!

    no, this is an external hard drive called my L drive

    OK buy a second external drive, format to ntfs and copy everything from the old one to the new one.

    Format old one and start over.

     

    Best is to capture to an internal drive.

    Ann, when I have received my new hard drive, can I request for someone to give me the steps on how to move my stuff from one hard drive to the new one?

    I'm pretty sure I will know how to copy files from one drive to the other. Copy and past?  My problem right now is, that I can not open my external hardrive to even see my files to either move them or delete some of them to make more space.

    oh, my.  I did nothing at all to the hard drive, like save anything before I went into my computer and chose NTFS.

    I've just been told my drive has been corrupted!  Is there any hope to get all that information back if they reformat it?

    Using the instructions at the Microsoft link I posted, I have converted a half a dozen drives from FAT32 to NTFS and have had ZERO problem with data loss or corruption

     

    That is, of course, based on exactly following the Microsoft instructions

     

    You may have a drive with a hardware failure, if you are 100% sure you exactly followed the Microsoft instructions

    No, copy paste is when you are inside something like a word processor

     

    Using Windows Explorer you click and "drag and drop" a file (or folder) from one location to another

    I don't know you, but it SEEMS you don't know much about computers

     

    When you format a drive, everything is lost

    my computer tech thinks the drive is corrupt and wants to format it.  I am so depressed and hope someone might have a solution. I can't afford to lose all my information.

    Ask your computer tech about a drive recovery service... they are specialized and VERY expensive... no, I don't know the name of such a service

    thank yhou John. I am going to give the hard drive to my parner's son-in-law who is a computer tech.  Very, very sad night for me.  I have two years of sweat and tears in that hard drive. I will give him your suggestion.

    Also talk to him about how to make file backups to another drive

     

    I have 3 internal hard drives, one of which contains all of my video files

     

    I also have 3 external USB hard drives... too slow for video editing, but great to rotate for file copies

    I will.  I ordered a new external hard drive yesterday. I am sooo hoping he can open the one I have now.
