Transparent PNGs Have Dark Outline

Apr 5, 2012 11:44 AM

Whenever I use a PNGs with transparency in my documents, they show up with gross outlines around the edges.

It seems the places where the pixels are not 100% transparent do not get rendered correctly.

I tried switching "Transparency Blend Space", and it doesn't help; though the CYMK setting makes this problem more obvious.

Has anyone encounted this before?

Here's a link to one of my original PNGs that doesn't work properly in InDesign:

Here is what the exported PDF with a problem looks like:

Resizing and resampling is causing this problem with PNG.

    You can:

    1. Save as .psd

    2. Use a script that would open image in Photoshop and resample to 100% and replace image in ID

How are you placing the image into ID? What PDF export profile are you using. Here is a closup of a PDF using your image. A light yellow rectangle is behind the image. Looks the same in ID.

Are you sure the frame is not filled with a yellow tint? I download the PNG, placed in ID, exported to PDF with no transparency issue (except outline).

I think Jeffery is right—PNG can't handle downsampling as well as psd (try exporting the png as a interactive PDF). Converting to PSD solves both the ID preview and low res PDF export:
