How much RAM is enough

I'm trying to make a free form panorama, when I select the function i want to use I get told I don't have enough memory ( ram ) I have 1g does any one know how much is enough?*

    Entirely depends upon how many images you are trying to stitch together and how big they are, along with how much of that 1 GB is not currently being used by your OS and any other applications currently running.

    The good news is that memory is really cheap now and Win 7 x64 will support huge amounts of memory.

    The bad news is that Photoshop Elements is a 32 bit only application and can't use more than roughly 3 GB under Windows. The extra GB maps to the video card.

     

    Full, expensive, Photoshop is a 64 bit app and can run much faster with 8 GB or more of memory.
