Acrobat X Pro: Really slow opening files

There's a post with this name in a read-only section. I haven't posted here for years, but I'm having this problem. I bought Nitro PDF as my workaround. It's good software, but, goshdarnit, I'd really like my Acrobat Pro to work also. There's no fix posted over there, so I'm wondering if there is a fix anywhere? Thanks.

I have the opportunity to create/work with PDFs that range up to 50MB &, sometimes for combined PDFs, up to some 100s of MB.

This has been with Acrobats 3.x through Acrobat X.

Now, when I have to open those 300 - 500 MB PDFs is does take Acrobat a moment to digest things.

But, for 100MB and below I've never had any "opens slow" issues.

With that said, I'm glad your workaround mets your needs.

But, to paraphrase Tom Aldous why get something that compares to the Porsche when you can have the Porsche?

    Be well...

Thad_McIlroy - I see that your question from Mar 17 was not answered. Did you ever get a private answer, or figure it out? I have the same issue. VERY slow opening even small PDFs using Pro X on Win 7 32-bit. Will be putting Pro X on another computer with 64-bit and worry it will be even worse. I'm wondering if Sophos is interfering while it runs checks in the background. If you have figured it out or gotten an answer that doesn't appear in the forum, can you please share? Thank you! I am not a patient waiter and, in fact, do not have the time to wait for every document I need to open.

I'm experiencing the same issue; since I installed the Acrobat X Pro Trial, the entire system can grind to a halt at any time just because the software is updating!  There's obviously something wrong with the recent version.

...I've uninstalled the trial and, following this, my system is working perfectly again.  I'm sorry but ever since version 10 of the software was released, my system hasn't been able to use Acrobat Pro without having a nervous breakdown.  It's causing trouble even when I'm not using it!  I suspect this is something to do with the software that checks whether it's a trial version or legitimate copy; unfortunately, it's active all the time (much like Vista's useless build of UAC), and so the entire system grinds to a halt.

I've commented about this issue before in previous releases, but either your team at Adobe doesn't know why it affects certain computers but not others, or you do, and simply ignore the software problem.  It's a shame, but I will just have to do everything through a service via your website from now on.
