Alright so I'm just starting with CS5 Master and creating a simple movie all the editing work is complete, just started on the menu system today so off to En; created a menu in Ps works well now into Ae and give it some motion created an 'In' and went to save for import back into En.....
Needless to say I've been following youtube videos for some assistance along the way and a few videos say to use Quicktime format (actually one said only and always) so I'm fallowing one and he does the same so I fallow suite mine also appeared to be all default as his so I thought I was on the right track; as I rendered it Ae gave me an error saying it can render in .mov however the OS will not be able to understand it or what ever so I figured I'll try it (After all only En has to read it not the OS right?! lmao ok not funny).... well saved the file and En cannot open it saying Quicktime is not installed or Codec or something blah blah... so I google searched and found some help on Adobe forums refering to Gspot PROGRAM so downloaded and ran that opened the .mov file no problems found I have all the codecs installed.
My Questions are:
Ae sudgested to save file as .avi; I will do this as soon as I'm finnished here and try it out but I am wondering why people say to use .mov as if it's the one and only best of the best....... I understand most people use MAC (aw now I have to was this bad Apple taste out of my mouth!!) but I'm on PC so is it still benefitial or is it just the native use for MAC and that's why?
I'm thinking there may be a problem using .mov on this perticular file as it is one I'm finnishing up for a friend and it was a slide show built in windows movie maker....... edited in Premiere Elements 2.0....... edited in Pr Pro CS5..... En Ae ect lol so perhaps too many windows formats interfeering with Mapple? (Mac Apple incase your wondering I call them one)
Thank you for the help I'm only putting in as much effort I require to have ample knowledge to make these programs function; Codec like most computing things is far to indepth for me to obtain an indepth knowledge of at this point in time, so forgive me for not READING EVERYTHING on the web; if you wouldn't mind answering my questions and giving me a brief overview or any assistance in these matters that would be appreciated; Thank you.

If you don't have Quicktime installed, you can't use .mov. There is no reason in CS5.5 to use .mov (probably in any recent version).
Just export from AE as avi (if you are using SD assets); Encore will transcode.
Alternatively, use dynamic link from AE or export from AE as mpeg (not muxed) so you get an m2v.
