How to make an image smaller?

I don't use Photoshop for extensive stuff, I like to make graphics for Glitter-Graphics for fun.

I can't find out how to make an image smaller. When I go to the top and click on layer and try to

make it smaller, it disappears althogther.  How does the crop tool work?  Also after I hve one picture open, if I open another the first disappears, why?

    If you click on the layer then press Ctrl + T you should be able to change the size and rotation of layer.

    The answer depends on what you want. The entire image or a single layer reduced. Former is Image>Image size (or crop tool). The latter, Curt Y already stated.

    Might you be unfamiliar with tabs?

    Photoshop > Preferences > Interface > Open Documents as Tabs

    Photoshop > Preferences > Interface > Enable Floating Document Window Docking

    I only have used PSP3 and 4, they are so much easier. I just make pictures for a site called Glitter-Graphics.

    When I hit the crop tool, it made my picture 10 times bigger? I know about layers in psp. I open one, then open

    another to add to the first one, etc., when I'm all done I merge visible.. I just need to learn the basis on Photoshop.

    Guess looking for online tutorials is my only hope and most of those I can't understand, I'm 56 and have carpal

    tunnel and arthritis, this keeps my hands working.Thanks

    Check the settings in the Options Bar before commiting the Crop.

     

    when I'm all done I merge visible
