XMP SDK 5.2, GPS Version ID field. UInt8[4], or ASCII[4]?

In XMP SDK, GPS Version is treated in a way seems not right.

 

Specification defines it as a 4 UInt8 array. XMP SDK save it in a string, but output the array element in a character each. WHile read it back, it read every version number as a single character.

 

The question is, seems not the way to handle UInt8.
