Is the Swipe Gesture response on Kindle Fire really this bad?

Apr 5, 2012 6:34 PM

Using the simplest swipe example I could locate from http://www.tutorialsbyibrent.com/

Flash CS5.5: iOS - Multitouch - GESTURES - Swipe

Using CS5.5 and Air 2.6 we tried this on Kindle Fire. This isn't the most responsive thing I've seen.

Frequently needing to tap kinda hard to get it to swipe, refusing to swipe in one direction or another.

Is Flash Gesture response really this bad on the Kindle Fire?  Is it better on other mobile devices?

Perhaps it's way better for AIR 3.2? Anyone have anything on android using swipe and AIR 3.0+?

It's unrealistic to expect it to be as responsive as native  but this seems almost unusable.

Plain old mouse dragging doesn't respond as we would like either. Tapping  seems ok.

Should we invest any more time in Flash/Air or move on?

Thanks in advance.

You absolutely should always use the latest versions. AIR2.6 is very old. Start by overlaying 3.2, see if it improves.

It runs a dual 1ghz core texas instruments OMAP processor which should be more than plenty to give you good performance. Especially seeing the screen is lower resolution than most other tablets making it easier to handle.

It indeed adds some size but with a little technique you'll get it running as smooth as can be expected. Remember between iPad1 and iPad2 the CPU and GPU were greatly enhanced (single A4 processor 256mb ram to dual A5s and 512mb ram). The iPad2 to iPad3 uses dual A5Xs and a gig of ram but you'd never know it because the retina display sucks up almost every single bit of extra horsepower. So you end up with a great display but almost absolutely no noticable speed improvement.
