Premiere Pro 5.5
Lacie 6TB Drive
RED R3D footage
- Ok I used the Project Manager to "Collect Files and Copy to New Location"
- Once 2TB of edited footage was copied to the new hard drive to use for editing.
- When I open up the backed up project on the new drive Premiere will not batch link the footage. I am having to link 2TB of footage ONE BY ONE.
Does the "Copy files to new location" just totally screw any ability for Premiere to find the files?
If so it is pretty much useless.
How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance, this is really important and time sensative. You guys rock.
What is the folder/sub-folder hierarchy for your Source Files? Are they in sub-folders below the Project's folder structure, or scattered about?
The only linking issues that I have encountered were with SmartSound files, that were NOT within my Project's folder structure. When I Moved them to the Project, and used Project Manager, they were THEN gathered up, and Copied to the destination disc.
Only thing that I can think of.
The source files are on the master drive by date shot then the folders are organized how the RED files automatically copy form the camera.
The problem is that once I copied to a new drive and then tried to use the new copied drive for editing, Premiere could not find the files, as if it was unable to successfully serach and pic the copied files.
Project manager just copies all the files into one massive folder. This may be why Premiere is having a problem.
If the Path (absolute) is changed in any way, the links to those files are broken in the PRPROJ file. PrPro will ask, "Where is file____ ?" At that point, one would just navigate to the new location (Path), and choose the first file asked for, in that folder. PrPro will then relink to all used files in that folder, automatically. If one has the files in various sub-folders, the process will need to be repeated for each folder. PrPro also offers a Finder, to help with the navigation, if necessary. Once all Assets have been re-linked, I would do a Save_As, and increment the Project's name.
"navigate to the new location (Path), and choose the first file asked for, in that folder. PrPro will then relink to all used files in that folder, automatically."
This is how it SHOULD work. However Premiere will not automatically link anything in this big folder that was copied footage. Premiere imports thousands of R3D subfolders, and Premiere doesn't automatically link anything. This essential makes this backup USELESS.
I can't relink 4000 files. Premiere needs to fix this. This is ridiculous.
