I really dont understand this. Theres no way any of the assets come close to 6 gb's yet its telling me they do. Everythng imported is in mpg2, everything checks out, I am completely stumped.
I am curious about this, too. I am learning Encore, and my first project has 5.5 GB of data in the folder that contains all videos (.mov files). Other than a PSD menu file and a single frame screen grab, I don't have any other data in the project. However, the Build window tells me I have 11.27 GB.
I have tried adjusting the transcode settings, but regardless of which settings I use, the Build window reports the same 11.27 GB of data.
The build window shows an estimate of the finished size. If it is not changing when you change transcode settings, it may be because you have already transcoded.
I assume that the "folder that contains all videos" is your source and is not part of the Encore folder structure. These will be transcoded, and have nothing to do with the size on disk. What was the DVD Transcode Status when you imported? (Do not transcode, Automatic, or what?)
BTW, I didn't intend to hijack Velzz's thread here with my scenario, so I hope my comments offer more help than confusion.
First of all, I DID accidentally add ROM content. I thought that field in the Build dialog was necessary to indicate where my video files were located. Apparently, the glaring green bar in the disc info wasn't glaring enough for me...LOL. After removing the ROM content, the disc info now displays only 1.64 GB. Given that my video files are 5.2 GB, I suppose this must be some serious compression. Any advice on how to determine which of the various transcode settings are best? The videos I am working with a live music videos with stereo audio and a moderate amount of movement.
Thanks Stan & Bill for helping me out. I appreciate your time!
DV AVI is about 13 Gig per hour
That hour fits comfortably on a 4.7 gig DVD
Yes... there is compression to go from "raw" DV AVI to the MPEG-2 format used on a DVD
