when I use spot or healing brush it works a little and then starts leaving dark smudges or lines

The spot and healing brush seems to work a little, but then leaves dark smudges or even complete dark lines.  Also seems to pick up other objects in the picture as if it is copying a section of the picture.  Have tried to reset, but nothing works.

    Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?

     

    Have you checked the Tool’s Blend Mode (in the Options Bar)?

    The Spot Healing Brush in Photoshop CS5 uses Content Aware Fill, and it's function is EXACTLY to go find other parts of the picture to fill in over what you clicked on.  What is it that you expect it to do if not that?

     

    As Christoph has said, please provide some image examples.  It may be that it's not working correctly, but it's impossible to tell whether you're seeing it do what's expected without seeing the before/after results you're seeing.

    Notice on the left cheek the smudges?  Can’t get them off.  And when I try to work on the neck and chest area without even coming close the necklace starts appearing and dark smudges.

    Images don't make it back into the forum if they are attached to eMails.  You must use the web interface and the little "camera" icon to attach images.

    Must not be able to do it since I am using the trial version.  Going to give it up and discontinue.  Couldn't attach screen shot. 

     

    Don't have time to spend.  This is a function that is one of the most important.  Have watched the video tutors and did it exactly the same way.  But doesn't work.

    I have been using the Spot Healing Brush a lot in the Photoshop CS6 beta, and it seems to be fine.

    Don't have time to spend.

    If you don’t have the time to trouble-shoot the issue then why bother posting at all?

    People are trying to help you, but if you have an »I certainly did everything right«-attitude that might be difficult.
