If you haven't already tried this, you might like enabling Precise cursors in the Cursors preferences (note that there are seperate settings for painting tools and other tools). This will give you a crosshairs for all your tools so you can see exactly where they're pointing, but comes with the downside that the cursor will no longer provide an indication of what tool is selected. You can also enable precise cursors using the Caps Lock key which allows you to toggle them on and off quickly.
