Pdf Transparency problem

hello indesigners.

 

i printed out a pdf,and had some pngs inluded in the document.

when it was printed out,some of the png icons came with a black rectangle around them.what went wrong?

im trying to find the appropriate settings for my pdf to avoid such an issue in future.

    What did they look like in ID in Overprint Preview?

     

    You printed to PDF, or exported? What settings?

    hello peter.

     

    in overprnit preview its shows everythig perfect.

     

    i had exported it and then printed it,and the settings where:

     

    export to adobe pdf,is there a particular settings for masked images,and png images i should take notice of?

     

    ps:could it be that the png icons are doing this due to that they are imported from psd files maybe?

    I'm trying to figure out if you flattened transparency when you exported to PDF, so I need to know what the compatibilty setting was, or the preset, and whether the simulate overprint box was checked. What application was used to view/print the PDF?

    PNGs with transparency can be problematic if they are resampled on export. Try resaving them as PSDs. Check this thread:

    hello peter.

     

    no i did not flatten the transparency,i will print tommorow and see what happens.

    the capability was acrobat 5 (pdf 1.4)

    simulate over print was not checked it was greyed out

    and the application to view the pdf was adobe acrobat X pro.

    See Rob's response... There's nothing in the transparency handling itself that should be causing this.

    hello rbo!

     

    i made a major mistake,after all what im placing into indesign is a psd file and not png.and im still getting a black rectangle around my images.

    also another mistake i noticed is the images with the psd layers are in rgb colour space.could this be affecting it from priniting correctly?

    pdf 1.4 is flattened... try version 7 (1.6) or later (if memory serves me right)

    1.4 exported from InDesign is NOT a flattened PDF.

    ok... thats when not flattening started... knew i should have kept my mouth shut until i was at work lol... sorry about that
