Issue saving as jpeg

My Photoshop Elements 8 was working fine until the past weekend.

When I edit a photo and save the edited photo in my edited file, I chose to save it as jpeg.

However, when I open the file, it is saved in File format.  I didn't have this issue before.

I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it again but to no avail,  still the same issue.

 

Can someone suggest something for me to try or tell me what I may be doing wrong?

    Frank,

     

    It is probably a good idea to not put personal info in a post in this forum. As it is an open forum, there are spam'bots, that constantly crawl, looking for e-mail addresses, and such. I'll see if a MOD can remove that for you.

     

    Since I did not Reply to that thread, you can also Edit it, to remove the POP address.

    I have elements 8.  It worked fine until recently.

    Now when I edit a photo and save it as .jpeg and try to reopen it, it is saved as .file

    What am I doing wrong or what can I do to rectify this issue.

    Your help would be greatly appreciated.
