My problem with sorting images manually

I knows it's just me, so please bear with me, but I still have a problem figuring out how to sort images manually in Lightroom.

 

Before an import I try to drag around images and they don't drag.

 

After an import, I try to drag around images and they don't drag.

 

No images are selected. I'm at a loss. I know is just me, sorry.

    Make sure you are "grabbing" the photo by the inner image, not by the border.

    Also, be sure you have "User Order" selected in "Sort" on the bottom tool bar. If Sort does not show up down there, click on the triangle at the far right side of the bottom tool bar & select it.

    Also make sure you're in a last level-folder or a collection.

     

    Lightroom will not allow manual sorting in folders that have subfolders, collection sets or smart collections.

     

    In fact, Lightroom 4 even pops up a warning about that.

    thanks, this is what's going on I think.

     

    Before the import I cannot sort manually period. Am I wrong on this?

     

    After the sort, LR defaults highlight to folder, "previous import"

     

    Which also I cannot sort manually correct?

     

    If I then mouse over to the folder of the sort (if I can find it among all other folders), then I am finally allowed to sort manually.

     

    If this all correct?
