Having trouble with pinning...

Tags:I'm having a bit of trouble with the pinning function, and I'm wondering if it's a bug or my mistake.
So I've got the page laid out like so, with all of that navigation material on the left hand side pinned to the browser.
My problem is when I view this in preview all of that content hugs itself to the left hand side of the browser like so:
About an hour ago, this wasn't doing this. The pinning before just kept it in the place I have it laid out in the actual design. I went into some older versions of this site to see if I had messed up somewhere along the line, but those older files were doing the same thing. So I'm wondering, am I confused as to what pinning actually does? Or is this kind of a hiccup on the part of the program?
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
