Illustrator wont open

So i went to open my CS4 Illustrator today and it wont open. My indesign opens but all of my settings are gone. Ive never had a problem with my programs before so i have no clue how to go about fixing this, i dont even know where to start. Some people have told me to uninstall then reinstall the creative suite but im really trying to avoid that.

any ideas?!

Typical first steps would be deleting your Illustrator preferences

if you're having related Indesign issues, you might delete those as well.

and if that doesn't help clean your font caches.

Well, if your otehr programms are affected, you may have serious disc corruption there... Time to be extra careful and back up stuff, then run a checkdisc/Disk Utility, defragment the drive and so on. Yes, you could simply trash the prefs everywhere, but without knowing the cause of the problem and fixing it, this may not solve anything.
