How to use 2 colors on a character ?

That is how i want to look like

In photoshop i have done the same logo but the quality is really bad so how can i do it like the to use the "select retangle tool" or how its called

in rasterized form

Well because im a newbie in AI

    Eli,

     

    Is it impossible to divide the shapes into separate objects and colour those independently?

    Either divide the logo as Jacob suggests or make a compound of the whole thing and use it as a clipping mask over coloured shapes.

    The latter option wil require very accurate alignment of the coloured shapes where two colours butt together.

    I think a Liv e paint Goup would work for this you have to draw a small staight horizontal path where the top arc and the crossbar and angled extension meet so tou get a and ending that is suitable..
