Values have disappeared

I feel bad for asking a newbie question, but my values alongside the layer attributes have disappeared.
I pressed f4 (on a mac), but that brings up way too many options and it takes up too much of the timeline.
There used to be a button on the bottom bar which toggled between a couple different modes and such, but that never got rid of the values next to the attributes. Not sure how this happened. How do I restore it?
