I have build a comprehensive keyword hirarchie for my underwater pictures that I would like to keep in sync accross different catalogs e.g. that means if I add an other species to the hirarchy in catalog 1 I would like to see this species also in the keyword hirarchary in catalog 2.
Possible somehow?
Thanks for some feedback or ideas ...
Not without a lot of effort. It's one good reason for having a single catalogue, and using metadata like keywords for categorising and grouping images.
The effort is using Metadata > Import/Export Keywords to copy a text file over, or only adding new keywords in such a text file (Notepad or TextEdit) and then using Metadata > Import Keywords.
Another way is to have a dummy image which gets all the keywords and which is in all the catalogues. You then use Save Metadata after adding new keywords, and in other catalogues Read Metadata to add the new keywords to each catalogue.
You'll have to keep track of this process yourself, but it's almost certain you'll soon find keywords start diverging between catalogues. The mere fact that you want the keywords in sync is a pretty strong indicator it's one body of work and that you shouldn't be breaking up your control of it.
thanks very much, that confirms my various trials :-)
I think I'll explore the single catalog option further. Are there any known limits of how many pictures can be handled in a single catalog. Usually a extensive trip adds another 3000 - 4000 pictures to the catalog, at the moment this would sum up to 20.000 picutures. And yes I could get the number down but there are some reasons why I don't want to do that.
