iPad1/2 -> 3 questions...

Apr 16, 2012 6:35 AM

This may look like an InDesign-related questions, well it is actually DPS-related...

I'm in the process of switching my folios from 1024 to 2048.

I have no knowledge of ID scripting. However I would like to do this, which is quite simple and works properly for most of my folios:

- Change document format from 1024x768 to 2048x1536

- On each page:

  - Select All

  - Change X/Y to 0px/0px

  - Scale X/Y to 200%/200%

  - (Bonus would be to have the margin set to 72px/72px so that I can check everything's ok)

All scripts examples use some very complex variables. I actually wish I could use an equivalent to the Word "record macro" function, as I just need to do record/play some mouse clicks and keyboard entries... Any hint? I have more than 280 pages to compute...

I would also like to reload all pictures of a document, all stored in one single directory, so that I can replace lores by hires pictures. I'm currently "cheating" by renaming directories: ID looses track of pictures, I point one picture and the other stand corrected. Is there a clean way to do this?

Sorry if my ID skills look terrific - they are 8-)

    Go to the InDesign scripting forum and see if anyone there can help.

    But first check to make sure that you really need to do that. Have you tried using your 1024x768 source documents in a 2048x1536 folio?

    @Frederic – It's not so trivial scripting scaling contents and pages. AND of course guides and margins, not to think of baseline grid properties leaving all things working as before.

    There is no Macro Recorder or something to do this…

    FWIW, you can use hi-res images in 1024x768 source articles and get the same results.

    No, it isn't necessary, as long as your images in the 1024x768 are hi-res enough to scale up. If you have an iPad 3, test it. Create a 2048x1536 folio and then add a couple of articles based on 1024x768 source files.
