Illustrator CS5.1 is crashing on *every save*

Any idea why this is? I've just upgraded to CS5.1 from CS4.

Illustrator CS4 used to crash a bit with complex files, and i thought CS5.1 would resolve this but it's a lot worse! i can't save *any* file. i can open the application and open files but it crashes out completely when i try and save (no file appears in finder). I'm on mac 10.6.8

The other CS5.5 applications seem ok so far. Illustrator is very problematic though.

    Can you provide a sample .ai file?

     

    Just to see if it has anything to do with the files you're dealing with.

    Do you have any font management software like suitcase fusion , or might be you had it once?

     

    Where are you trying to save the file ...have you checked on a different location?

    i only have apple's fontbook. i think there may be a couple of fonts that are problematic in there. do you think it's that? i am just saving to the local hard drive. no network saves or anything.

    Yes , font could be the issues ,

     

    You can disable those font from the font book and check.

     

    Can you check saving the blank Illustrator File without ant content?

     

    Also can you provide the crash log , copy and paste teh crash log on pastebin.com  and put the link here.

    seems to be just about anything. i CAN now save a super simple AI file that's been created directly in the program (after i deleted my prefs files for CS5.1), but still problems with anything more complicated e.g. opening a simple .FXG and saving it as .AI

    it doesn't even give me a crash log (CS4 used to!)

    try and change the plugin and scratch disk from  Preferences , to Mac HD and the restart Illustrator and check.

    aha - this is better. not sure if it was the fonts i disabled or the scratch disk change (i changed that back once it was working and still ok) but it seems better so far. will update if i have further problems... many thanks
